Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 11 January 2015) was an Swedish actress in American and European films, famous for her beautiful and stunning body. Her iconic character of Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) made her famous. Ekberg was born in Sweden on the 29th of September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. As a teenager, Anita worked as a fashion model. Ekberg upon the request by her mother in 1950 was a contestant in Miss Malmo. She was crowned the Miss Sweden contest. Despite having a very limited knowledge of English the contestant traveled to the United States to compete for the 1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant until the pageant officially became official in 1952). Ekberg did not win the title of Miss Universe winner, but she was one of six finalist. The contestant did get an agreement with Universal Studios as a starlet. Ekberg was an Universal starlet, where she learned the art of elocution, drama and dance. The film she appeared in was The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as an actress on Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
